Even though the range of sporting events which are available for sports gambling fans to follow and gamble on has increased dramatically over recent years, the most popular sports gambling activity in Ireland remains horse racing. In fact many would argue that gambling on horse racing is almost a national pastime in the country. With the now widespread availability of online sports gambling we are not even restricted to gambling on our own race meetings, we can enjoy horse race gambling almost every day of the week and almost everywhere in the world. If you are a horse race gambling fan you will know that today may be very special for one national hunt jockey in particular, and bookmakers everywhere are preparing themselves for a potential bumper day. This afternoon at the Towcester course in Northamptonshire Tony McCoy will have two more chances to achieve the phenomenal feat of riding 4,000 winners in his career. William Hill are apparently quoting even money that McCoy will achieve this milestone this afternoon and the Towcester course are of course hoping for a bumper crowd for this mid-week meeting for which entry is free. Having scored his 3,999th winner on Minelle For Steak yesterday at Chepstow, McCoy will ride his first mount, Church Field at 2.10pm followed an hour later by a ride on Mountain Tunes in the Novices Hurdle. Both these horses are owned by J P McManus and trained by Jonjo O’Neill, a combination which has proved the basis of much of his success over the past 10 years and would be a fitting way to achieve such a pinnacle in a career spanning almost 20 years. It is hoped that fans of gambling on horse racing all over the world will be watching what could be a historic day for the sport. Best of luck Tony you deserve every accolade for your contribution to the sport of National Hunt racing.
