Online casinos have given rise to several relatively new forms of established casino games, one of which is gaining in popularity amongst poker gamblers online. Omaha poker is a variation of community card poker similar to Texas Hold’em, but with four ‘hole cards’ instead of two and five community cards. For casino gamblers not familiar with the terminology, hole cards are dealt face down to each player and the community cards are dealt face up in the middle of the table and are available to all the players. Gamblers on poker who have never played the Omaha form of the game will find detailed rules on our casino games pages, but the most significant is that each Omaha poker gambler must use two, and only two of their hole cards in their final hand, the remaining three coming from the community cards. This rule changes the whole concept of what the poker gambler may consider to be a good dealt hand, in that three of a kind in the hole cards cannot be used in the final hand and also reduces the chance of a fourth being dealt in the community cards. It is also not possible for there to be two flushes of different suits in the showdown, because at least three community cards of the same suit must be used. The availability of nine cards for the gambler on Omaha poker to form his final hand does however increase the range of hands likely to be seen in the showdown, and with four hole cards the early betting rounds can often be more closely contested than some other forms of poker. Experienced Omaha poker gamblers will usually be extremely happy with a pair or preferably two pairs in their hole cards, or sometimes better still a run made up of two suits which gives more opportunities for either a run or a flush at the showdown. If you’re a poker gambler looking for a change, Omaha poker can be great fun and is worth a try.
