Probably the most significant development emanating from the introduction of online casinos in Ireland has been the rapid rise in the number of people gambling on poker. Some would argue that this surge in interest was originally prompted by the televising of poker tournaments but the influence of online casino gambling is also plain to see. There are now a huge range of online gambling games at our disposal, but online poker gambling is undoubtedly a firm favourite among online gamblers in all its formats. There are now online poker formats to suit all tastes and budgets, but Texas Hold’em remains the choice of most serious poker gambling enthusiasts primarily because it is the version of poker which is played in almost every poker tournament in the world. We have of course included the rules of Texas Hold’em gambling in our casino games pages, but for those of you who have never played this version of poker here is a very brief summary. Texas Hold’em poker is played with a standard deck and each player is dealt two cards face down after which five community cards are dealt one at a time face up in the middle of the table. These community cards are available to all the players when forming their final showdown hand. In the Texas Hold’em poker format there are betting rounds after each card is dealt, which of course increases the size of the pot quite quickly but also rapidly increases the financial commitment of the players wishing to stay in the game. Texas Hold’em poker particularly when played online against unknown opponents is not a game for the faint hearted or indeed those on a restricted budget, so take care not to exceed your financial resources. You should also be aware that Texas Hold’em is a gambling game which generally rewards the experienced player in the long run, so learn with small stakes and enjoy yourself.
