It is now generally recognised that gambling on poker is very much on the increase in Ireland, as it is elsewhere in Europe. The reason for this is the availability of poker gambling at the online casinos, coupled with the televising of major poker tournaments including the Irish Open which is of course one of the biggest poker tournaments in the world. Unfortunately many of us do not have the means to get involved such major events, nor indeed are we prepared to risk getting involved in ever increasing pots which can result from poker formats such as Texas Hold’em. That does not mean however that poker gambling online is totally out of the question. The online casinos offer us a variety of poker formats. Including the popular Pai Gow poker. For those of us with a limited budget, Pai Gow gambling is the perfect solution because it is a form of poker played against the house for fixed stakes. We have detailed the full rules of Pai Gow poker on our casino games pages, and recommend that new players check them out before having a go. The player and the dealer are each dealt seven cards form a standard 52 card pack plus one joker, from which they must make two hands, one of five cards and one of two cards. The five card hand must rank higher than the two card hand and the player must win both hands to claim the pot. At this stage we should point out that the dealer need only win the five card hand and tie the two card hand to win. This represents the house edge. The joker also has a limited role in Pai Gow gambling, and can only be used to complete a straight or a flush in the five card hand, or as an ace in either hand. Gambling on Pai Gow poker is an excellent introduction to poker gambling and is a great game in its own right, but there are minor differences to the hand rankings on some online casino sites so make sure you check it out before you play.
