Sports gambling is often about speed or endurance, and recent weeks have given us both in abundance. First sports gambling fans were provided with gambling opportunities galore during the London Olympic games and those who enjoy gambling on the fastest man or woman in any sport had a feast of choices on the athletics track, in the velodrome, in the pool and even on the rowing course. There were many stars but probably only one real legend, the fastest man on earth Usain Bolt became the first man ever to defend his Olympic titles in both the 100 and 200 meters on the track. Real sporting legends are few and far between, but it has to be said that this week has almost certainly seen another candidate for this accolade. Horse racing gambling enthusiasts will have witnessed the magnificent Frankel chalk up his thirteenth successive win out of thirteen starts, proving beyond doubt that he is the best race horse of the modern era, if not ever, and he did it over the longer distance of a mile and a quarter and there was still no challenger to touch him once he opened up. Gambling on horse racing is a national pastime in Ireland, but few will have ever seen a horse so clearly better than any other horse in the field. It looks as if Frankel will have just one more race this season before retiring to stud, possibly at Ascot in the Qipco champion stakes, although some people are suggesting that he may go for the Arc. Horse race gambling fans will be sorry to see him go. The 2012 flat racing is rapidly coming to an end, and the Killarney August Festival is almost upon us and is being held this year from the 29th August to Saturday the 1st September. This is the last meeting at Killarney this season, so although it is unlikely to witness a sporting legend, horse race gambling punters will be hoping for an exciting four days racing to finish the season.
