As more and more people in Ireland gain access to online gambling, so the popularity of poker gambling in the country continues to increase. Of all the online gambling games now widely available gambling on poker has probably shown the biggest surge of interest, particularly the community card format as used in Texas Hold’em poker. Texas Hold’em is now undoubtedly the most popular poker gambling format throughout the world and is definitely the format of choice for all serious poker players, both online and in poker tournaments. It is easy to forget that there are many other poker gambling games available on the online gambling sites, including one called Omaha poker which it could be argued is at least as exciting as Texas Hold’em. Omaha poker gambling also involves the use of five community cards, the difference being that each player is dealt four cards face down instead of two as in Texas Hold’em. The rules of Omaha poker can be found on our casino games pages, but the only real difference between these two poker formats lies in the way the final showdown hand is compiled. When gambling on Omaha poker each player must use two but only two of their hole cards in their final hand, therefore needing three of the community cards to form the hand. On the face of it this does not seem particularly significant, but it does effect the value of certain hole cards during the initial betting rounds. For example when gambling on Omaha poker holding three of a kind in the hole cards is not necessarily a good hand, because only two can be used in the final hand. For those of you new to Omaha poker gambling it is also worth noting that it is not possible for there to be two flushes of different suits in the final showdown because three community cards must be used by every player. Omaha poker is an interesting alternative to Texas Hold’em and just as exciting.
