Now that sports gambling fans can follow their favourite sports almost all year round because of the world wide coverage available at the online sports gambling sites, some sports which were generally considered to be seasonal gambling opportunities are now far more popular than they were. One obvious example is golf, and although gambling on golf remains a minor gambling activity in Ireland it is growing in popularity. It helps of course that Ireland is blessed with some exceptional golfers who have carried the flag for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland successfully for a number of years. The biggest draw for Irish golf gambling fans is of course currently Rory McIlroy who is sitting at number three in the world rankings behind Americans Jordan Spieth and Jason Day. The 2016 season will raise a number of questions for golf gambling fans on both sides of the Atlantic, not least who will win the Ryder Cup in September, which this year will be held at Chaska, Minnesota. It is difficult to believe but America have only one twice in the last ten tournaments, and although both of those were at home the last time was in 2008. Irish fans of gambling on golf will also be wondering whether Rory can reclaim the number one spot in 2016, and whether he will win another major. It won’t be easy because current number one Jordan Spieth appears to have picked up where he left off last year and looks set to start favourite for all the majors. His rise up the rankings during 2015 was a remarkable sight for golf gambling fans, but we all hope that he and Rory will provide some thrilling entertainment this year as they will surely be both vying for top spot as the season progresses.
