The Irish cricket team go into action next Friday in the first of their games in the World Cup and this gives an unusual cricket gambling opportunity. All 14 teams have been split into two groups of seven with Ireland in the same pool as India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Holland; each of the teams will play each other once in a mini league and the top four teams will go through to the quarter finals where they will play teams from the other group in a knockout. You can get huge odds on Ireland winning the tournament but we would not advise gambling on that particular outcome but the first game is against Bangladesh on Friday 25th who they have beaten before; Paddy Power are offering 11/4 on an Irish win but Bet365 go better at 3/1; Ladbrokes have yet to post odds at the time of going to press but generally speaking if you want to gamble on Ireland Ladbrokes will offer better odds than Paddy Power. For example, if you think Ireland could qualify for the knock out stages Paddy Power are offering 13/2 but a slightly different bet would be for Ireland to be knocked out in the quarter finals (in other words reach the knock out stages but lose at that point) which can be had at Ladbrokes for 9/1. If Ireland do qualify in fourth place in group B they will play the winners of group A so these two bets must be considered very similar. You do not often get a chance for gambling on cricket and particularly where Ireland are playing and this is one day cricket so there will be surprises along the way; remember Holland beat England in the last Twenty/20 world cup.
