The rise of online sports gambling has undoubtedly expanded the range of sports actively followed by sports gambling fans. In fact recent reports suggest that traditional gambling sports such as horse racing may actually be in decline with calls for the relationship and financial support currently given to horse racing by the gambling industry to be renegotiated. How much of that is true we don’t know but what is clear is that gambling on other sports is increasing online. Boxing for example has been suffering a little recently from a lack of real superstars, particularly in the heavyweight division, but gambling on boxing does still attract a great deal of interest when a championship fight comes along. In this respect September will be a good month for boxing gambling fans with two interesting championship fights scheduled. First up is IBF World Super-Bantamweight championship fight between Kiko Martinez and Carl Frampton in Belfast on the 6th September. This is followed on the 13th by Floyd Mayweather defending the WBC and WBA World Super-Welterweight title in Los Angeles. Both of these fights will undoubtedly attract the attention of ardent boxing gambling fans and sports gambling fans in general. The Mayweather fight in particular will be popular because any fight involving Floyd Mayweather attracts substantial media coverage all over the world. The Heavyweight division is quiet at the moment but there will be an opportunity for fans of gambling on boxing to see a major Heavyweight fight in November when Dereck Chisora will meet Tyson Fury in a Final eliminator to decide who will challenge for the World Heavyweight title. That should be some fight according to most boxing commentators, so boxing gambling enthusiasts will be looking forward to it.
