When it comes to sports gambling in Ireland it has to be said that the game of cricket does not feature very highly on the popularity list, whereas in countries such as India and Pakistan gambling on cricket is definitely the top gambling activity. It also has to be said that this has also been the cause of most of the match fixing scandals associated with cricket gambling over recent years. From an Irish perspective gambling on cricket has become more popular recently on the back of some very good results from the national team, and there is no doubt that Irish cricket fans are passionate about the sport and follow the game wherever it is being played. This means that they are likely to be anticipating the upcoming test match series between England and Sri Lanka as an excellent cricket gambling opportunity. If the recent one day series is anything to go by, the results will be difficult to call. Fans of gambling on cricket will look back on a series which although it finished just 3-2 to Sri Lanka did not actually include many close matches. What it did do was introduce a number of relatively unknown English players to the international cricket arena two of whom excelled. Jos Buttler and Chris Jordan had extremely good games, and Jordan has been rewarded by inclusion in the test match squad along with two other debutants, Sam Robson and Moeen Ali. Matt Prior gets a controversial return and Liam Plunkett is also included for the first time in seven years. All cricket gambling enthusiasts will be looking to see whether the new blood can revitalise an England team after their disastrous winter in Australia. We wait and see.
