Gambling on greyhound racing is back in Ireland

Irish sports gambling enthusiasts are well known for their love of horse racing, but it has to be said that most Irish sports gambling fans also enjoy gambling on a variety of other sports. Football is of course a firm favourite, along with rugby and the GAA sports, but these are sporting events are not dependent on gambling to survive, whereas horse racing and to an even greater extent greyhound racing are generally thought to be totally dependent on the gambling public. In fact greyhound racing in Ireland almost ceased to exist a few years ago, because there was little or no investment in the tracks, with very poor facilities for spectators and trainers alike. Fortunately that situation has now been rectified and there are now nineteen tracks in Ireland holding regular meetings for greyhound gambling fans with massively improved entertainment and hospitality facilities and the sport is again on the up. A night out gambling on greyhound racing is now a very enjoyable experience and has become popular across a broad spectrum of the population because of the excellent hospitality facilities. Most people still believe that greyhound racing remains totally dependent on the sports gambling public, but the sport is now attracting a wider audience many of whom are new to greyhound race gambling but appreciate a good night out. Among the greyhound races coming up this week are two cup races at Harolds Cross which always attract attention, namely the Peggy Kelly Islandbridge Sprint and the Dublin Cup both of which are worth a punt.
